The Commitment to Oneness

Movies, TV shows, and books on romance all seem to teach that "chemistry" is one of the key factors that lead toward success in a relationship. It's how you know you've found “the one", right? Chemistry is a powerful thing. It can make a relationship feel right—and when a relationship feels right—we often believe it is right. And it might be—but chemistry is not the litmus test to determine that. If God calls you to the incredibly difficult gift of marriage—passion and chemistry are great things to have. But it’s not enough. The reality is—chemistry might help spark a relationship—but it will never be powerful enough to sustain it. Chemistry—without commitment—will only lead to confusion and conflict. Cultivating oneness has nothing to do with chemistry, and everything to do with commitment.
