Forgiveness matters to God. Matthew 6:14-15 tells us that if we forgive those who have sinned against us, our heavenly Father will forgive us, but if we refuse to forgive others, He will not forgive us. By His mercy, we are not regarded for the evil things we've done against God and others. It's not that God is unaware of our wrongdoings, but He loves His children in spite of the sins we've committed. Since we've been forgiven, we are free to live differently and forgive others in the same manner. When we forgive, it doesn't erase the past. It doesn't change what was done. It doesn't necessarily remove the pain either. It does, however free us from the burden of holding on tightly to what was done and holding it against the one who did it. Forgiveness is a process that ends in freedom, and God has made you to discover Him as you walk through it.
