The Forgotten Weapon - Day 1 of 5

Day 1: Building a Consistent Practice of Prayer

Five-day devotional based on the message, "The Forgotten Weapon" by Senior Pastor Jeff Maness on April 13, 2025. Click here to watch the video.

Devotional
In our journey towards cultivating a life of prayer, we begin with setting aside specific times each day to commune with God. This practice mirrors the discipline of training, much like Kenta Adachi's dedication to pull-ups. Just as he did not achieve his world records overnight, developing a consistent prayer practice is a gradual process. It’s about building a rhythm in our daily lives where prayer becomes as natural as breathing. By dedicating intentional time for prayer, we allow it to become our default response and posture before the Lord.

Bible Verse
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions…" — Ephesians 6:18a (NIV)

Reflection Question
What specific time can you set aside each day to begin building your practice of prayer?

Sermon Quote
"The reality is, if I want to learn to pray at all times, I need to learn how to pray at set times—so that prayer becomes my default response to the Lord and my default posture before the Lord." — Jeff Maness

Prayer
Lord, help me to prioritize and set aside time each day to spend with You. As I begin this journey of consistent prayer, guide me to find moments in my day to make prayer a natural part of my life. Amen.

My favorite time of the day is at 4AM. It’s my quiet time with the Lord. I start my (WFH) day at 5AM, and the hour I spend with God first thing in the morning has changed my life. I’ve done this for a few years now. My house is so quiet. I sit with God [and my coffee :-)] and soak in His words. Whether it’s going over notes from the Sunday service, a Bible App plan, a focused study or just reading what He puts on my heart, it’s my precious one on one time. Yes 4AM is early, and it might require a nap sometimes later in the day, but that’s ok…Jesus took naps too.
